About Vacant Chair

Vacant Chair has been created for a number of reasons but most especially for those many individuals who have lost a loved one who still quietly grieve, despite the passing of time.

Death is something that will, inevitably, touch all our lives at some point, and yet, it is something that is never thought about, never talked about, until we have no choice. It’s then that that we find ourselves changed forever and though time moves on, and on the surface we seem to cope day by day, many of us still continue to feel, quite simply, lost.Rocking Chair

We set out to create a website which could bring comfort, hope and even laughter to all who visit. A place here our loved ones can be remembered and we ourselves can draw solace from knowing we are not alone, that others are out there feeling exactly the same as we do.

Vacant Chair is a place where we are able to create a living memorial, a shrine if you will, for those we have loved and lost, for as long as it is needed. And others, at the same time, can browse through these stories and meet our loved ones, and our beloved pets, and know how wonderful they were in life.

But we didn’t want this site to be just about sorrow and loss. Death is only a part of life’s rich tapestry – there is so much more. For every life that leaves this mortal coil, another bright, new life arrives, full of hope and possibility.

We wanted to celebrate all that makes life worth living – all that makes us who we are. Experiences that mould us, drive us. Moments that made us laugh, or cry, or helped us to make a life –changing decision. Anything ….. everything.

So please, share a little of yourself, or simply spend time reading other’s stories, and realise in the end, we are all part of the same, never-ending cycle of life.
